KIA’s journey in Pakistan has been marked by ups and downs. The brand first entered the Pakistani market in the mid-1990s, launching the KIA Pride hatchback and the 1-ton KIA Ceres pickup. However, its initial experience was marred by issues with its local partner, Naya Daur Motors. In December 1998, Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) partnered with KIA and Hyundai to assemble and sell their vehicles in Pakistan. DFML established the country’s first automobile manufacturing plant, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 vehicles. Unfortunately, Dewan Motors faced financial difficulties and went bankrupt in 2008, leading to the exit of both KIA and Hyundai from the Pakistani market.
KIA made a triumphant return to Pakistan in 2017, thanks to a partnership with Lucky Cement under the Yunus Brothers Group (YBG). Since then, KIA Lucky Motors has been successfully introducing high-quality international KIA models to the Pakistani market.
